We have the statement at the beginning of GoF that his mother would
have been pretty if it weren't for her expression. She's a Black and
they're known for their attractiveness. I imagine that if Lucius were
physically unattractive she'd have no use for him (but blood and 
money could well have overcome some of her objections).
