nkittyhawk: I'm sorry, I couldn't help but say that occlumency is 
not reading minds. It's blocking Legilimency, which is reading 
minds. Now it's interesting that he knows both. Occlumency is 
obvious - he can't have Death Eaters knowing he's not exactly as ESE 
as they are. But why would he learn Legilimency? 
I don't think he had mind-reading qualities simply because he was a 
vampire.
Maybe I was just deprived of scary stories as a child, but I've 
never heard of a vampire that could read minds.
