I had a thought that perhaps the definition of "pureblood" has changed over the ages.  Words do that, you know.

Like in Salazars time it could have been unilinial.  One wizard parent means your pure blood.  Which would explain Tom's Sorting and Harry's Almost Sorting.

Also, who knows how many generations it has to be, I remember in Book2 there was a mention of nine generations of "Witches and Warlocks"
