I'm not a real big Sirius fan. I don't dislike him. I'm pretty neutral.

However, I think that you are being a bit hard on him. Sirius cares for Harry 
as if he were his own son. Reasons for this are numerous, probably having to 
do with his close relationship with James, a sense of failure with the 
Fidelius Charm, and also because he probably generally likes Harry.

Now, if my daughter were in any kind of trouble, let alone in a life 
threatening position, I wouldn't care how in danger my own life was, I would go and 
try to help her. And if I didn't go, and something bad happened to her, I would 
never forgive myself and would probably not care much about living after that 
point anyway. 

I don't know how anyone could expect him to sit idly by when Harry's life was 
in danger. I also don't see how he was putting anyone else's life in danger 
by coming along.
