IMHO this explains the sword, the sorting hat, the remarks by 
Dumbledore about choices - everything but Godric's Hollow. That's the 
one single piece of evidence that makes me think there is more to the 
old 'heir of Gryffindor' idea than just a fan construct. And I 
believe we've had a few plummy hints from JKR about its importance...
