I think JKR meant the prophecy. Voldemort has such an animus towards 
Lily and James, because they were the ones who protect Harry. He 
wanted to kill Harry, therefore Harry's protectors/ parents are in 
the way. They were also a part of the OOtP, which should also be a 
reason why they were killed.
