Now me:
The Harry Potter books, for me at least, are those wonderful stories that pull 
you inside.  When I read the HP book I am there at Hogwarts experencing 
everything along with Harry.  I am unaware of how much time has passed or 
of what else is going on around me.  
Also, I was recently talking with my sister about how real Harry Potter and the 
WW sometimes seem, her reply was that to her, Harry  _was_  real.  (She is 
able to seperate fantasy from reality, but chooses not to in this case :-)  I think 
this is because the stories are set on Earth, present day.  This makes them 
easy to relate to and it becomes easy to imagine that they are really 
happening.  This may be especially true for non-British readers, who may not 
be totally familiar with Britian, so it is a real place that is familiar, yet foreign 
enough to hold a bit of mystery.
