Tom Riddle was also a decendant of Salazar Slytherin.  I suspect that 
alone would have got him landed in Slytherin, unless he pulled an HP 
and asked to be placed in another house.  All I remember of canon, 
none of the books said all Slytherins were evil.  Ron said there 
wasn't a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin.    
So, does that mean Peter Pettigrew was a Slytherin?  Since DD said he 
made Remus prefect to help reign in Black and Potter, I assumed all 4 
were Gryffindors.  Peter the rat too, since I also assumed if he had 
been a Slytherin, he would have sucked up to a Slytherin, not a 
Gryffindor...
