When I read that bit, I just naturally assumed he was in Haiti. The
Caribbean is a magical area (Bermuda Triangle and all), and Haiti has
a kind of outlaw magicality --you know, the kind of place where they
don't ask questions if you pay in cash. Illusionist David Blaine
