In the 'Padfoot Returns' chapter of GOF, Sirius tells 'Harroninny'
that Snape "was part of a gang of Slytherins who nearly all turned
out to be Death Eaters." He's said to have been fascinated with the
dark arts while at school, and knew more curses than even 7th years.
