Personally I don't think Luna is a bad character at all. We so far haven't seen any signs she is particulary clever - she is in Ravenclaw - and I am nearly 100% certain that she is going to have a large part to play soon. She isn't evil and neither is Lupin so they are on the same side. OKay, so people on the same side sometimes hurt each other, but no one will hurt Lupin and I doubt someone will hurt Luna.
