Traditionally, I know, the phoenix is supposed to live for 100 years before dying in flames and being reborn. But is this canonical in the Potterverse? I can't remember whether JKR mentions it or not. To me, it seems as though Dumbledore has seen Fawkes go through a few cycles, and as Dumbledore's not as old as Nicholas Flamel, that would seem to suggest that Fawkes dies/is reborn far more frequently. But all my flipping through the first two books has yielded no answers -- maybe I'm just missing it. Can anyone clarify this for me? Please feel free to email me offlist, if you have the answer --
