Blood in the bottle?

I would not be surprised if it were blood, especially considering the 
opal stopper.  Traditionally, opals have a superstitious association 
with death.  See the thread of posts beginning with 72915 that talk 
about opal legends.

Although you do make a good point, which is that anything Harry is 
"quite sure" of is usually suspect.  :)
