As someone mentioned recently, there is no reason whatever to believe 
anything Voldemort says to anyone, let alone his worst enemy, unless there 
is separate evidence to support it.

There is, however, one kind of bravery we have seen Voldemort value  -- the 
ability to be faithful to him through adversity.  That's why he values 
Crouch Jr. and Bellatrix LeStrange.
