Everyone seems to be missing something about how Petunia knows about the
Dementors and such:


"How d'you know that?" he asked her, astonished.

Aunt Petunia looked quite appalled with herself.  She glanced at Uncle
Vernon in fearful apology, then lowered her hand slightly to reveal her
horsy teeth.

"I hear -- that awful boy -- telling *her* about them -- years ago," she
said jerkily.

Case closed, so far as I'm concerned.  She remembered James (who she hated,
and may have also been secretly infatuated with... which may be where some
of her problem stems... but I digress.) discussing it with Lilly.
