The comment sounds very much like a reference to that strange
mystical poem
of Shakespeare¹s ŒLet the bird of loudest lay¹ also known as ŒThe
Phoenix
and the Turtle. The concepts of essence and division are central to
the
poem as a whole. One verse goes:

So they loved as love in twain,
Had the essence but in one,
Two distincts, division none:
Number there in love was slain.

Astrid, that is an AWESOME catch! To really get into this
discussion, here is the full text of the mysterious poem with some
explanatory notes:

Now me:
I second that! Interesting connection, I'm intrigued. We know JKR
is a fan of Shakespeare's, after all she has resurrected the names
Hermione and Dorcus. Both form The Winter's Tale, as I'm sure you
know, and I've been thinking about the relevance of that connection
for a while. I certainly believe that Rowling has set up a
devastating love triangle between Harry, Hermione and Ron like the
one in The Winter's Tale which I have mentioned in other posts.
Haven't come up with a Dorcus connection yet....
