I write:
Thanks for your thoughts.  They've opened my mind more to the 
possibility that the prophecies aren't solely either short or long 
term, and that they may contain elements of both.  The fact that the 
second prophecy says that V will be even greater is probably the main 
piece of evidence my original theory overlooked.  Looking at both 
theories they are similar in terms of structure, and both short and 
long-term predictions appear to be made.

And thanks for pointing me towards older posts on the subject too!
