Now me:
The reason Mr. Olivander asked which hand Harry uses was to see which 
was the dominant one, not because there is a difference in the shape 
of the wand.  

I assume a witch/wizard can use their wand in either hand but one 
will be stronger than the other.  Just like using another 
witch/wizards wand will produce an effect but a weaker one.
