Or, Lupin can contact Snape and/or DD via floo and say, "I need the 
potion now, There's an emergency. We have to get to the Shrieking 
Shack!" Then maybe he goes too or maybe he stays behind.

I will concede, that by the same token, Snape should have let DD know 
he was going after Lupin and the others.  Except that Snape wasn't 
going to turn into a werewolf.
