I, too, have considered that it might be Hedwig....or perhaps a "not-
so-subtle" hint from Dumbledore....(who just happens to send one of
the school owls)...to be sure, I don't think there is any
significance to the items Harry receives, but perhaps the mere fact
that he receives "something" bolsters the protection effect that he
has as long as he spends some time at the Dursley's every year. I
have observed that he usually gets these things when there is a
danger around him....hmmmm!
Of course, there's always the possibility that ol'Petunia and Mrs.
Figg are great tea-drinking pals and this is how the items reach
Harry....I know, that's really off-the-mark, but I do think there's
more to Petunia than has been told.
But, IF these items ARE meant as some kind of protection for Harry,
does he lose some of that protection when he gives Dobby that old
pair of Uncle Vernon's socks????
