Carol:
Not that I accept your description of yourself as simple-minded :-),
but there's the previously discussed griffin door/Gryffindor knocker
and the names of all authors of the kids' textbooks, which to me are
the most obvious example of JKR's penchant for puns that would go over
the head of many young readers, for example, "Magical Theory" by
Adalbert Waffling. IIRC, the author of the book Umbridge assigns to
her class is somebody Slinkard. Sounds as if JKR isn't very fond of
theory in general.
