My thoughts are that if they were all petrified; none of them "drank" 
it anyway...they had to administer it another way...perhaps in a 
salve? or with the vapors? so whatever they did to the others, the 
did it to Mrs. Norris, and NHN... (can you rub salve on a ghost? so 
maybe it is vapor induced?)and maybe his had to be triple strong to 
get the effect, like the old stinky rotting food was strong enough 
to "almost" taste. This is one of those conundrums that is fun to 
theorize about, but to each his/her own deduction!
