And even if he sent a note with his name to authorize the withdrawal and a place to send the money, they would see his signature and call the Hit Wizards.

You're sure of that? I seriously doubt if Gringotts cares a bit about his being a criminal or not, as long as funds were available.

I agree with Suzanne - Gringotts are the "swiss bankers" of the WW. Confidentiality is paramount in that kind of business, and you don't ask too many questions other than to verify the identities of the account holders. Wouldn't surprise me if Voldy has a vault with them (though getting in and out of Gringotts might be dicey - polyjuice?). This becomes a very interesting dynamic in the coming books. If it's about financial gain, Voldy probably has more to "offer." But, the goblins have a stake in maintianing their strict neutrality, which is a guaranteed form of income. I think we'll see them "hunker down" even more in the coming story as they hedge their bets. But if I could go on a limb to predict, I'd say that both sides solicit goblin support, are initially stonewalled, that Voldy puts the screws to the goblins to "remind" them of what the price of denial is, which prompts them to take sides againt him . . .
