Lucius Malfoy leads a wave of muggle torture and murder, the
beginnings of which Harry hears about on the news at Privet Drive
before the new school year (I'm sure I read somewhere JK said
muggles would notice more happenings in the next book).

Jen: Interesting thread, Laura! I'm very curious to see what happens
at Privet Dr. You have a good idea above, perhaps Harry will be
listening to Muggle news again like in OOTP, but this time he *will*
hear about strange events. You were thinking of the World Book Day
chat, that Muggles will start noticing more happenings in Book 6:
Calliope: "Are the Muggle and Magical worlds ever going to be
rejoined?"
JK Rowling replies -> "No, the breach was final, although as book
six shows, the Muggles are noticing more and more odd happenings now
that Voldemort's back."
As for Privet Dr. in general, we've seen a slow erosion between the
Muggle/WW starting with the Owls. Since then we've watched Dobby,
the Knight Bus, Padfoot, the Weasleys & now Dementors surrying in
and around #4. I think in Book 6 there will be a final breach in
security that makes Privet Dr. unsafe for Harry to return there. We
know LV can't touch Harry, but apparently every other person and
creature in the WW is welcome!!!!
Of course, maybe Book 6 is too soon. But unless there's some
additional protection on the the house itself, like a charm allowing
only magical people/creatures to enter who intend to help, not harm,
Harry, I just don't see how Harry is safe there.

Jen: My guess was DD's powers would be compromised in some way
during Book 6, but he wouldn't actually die. Then during the World
Book Day chat, JKR made it sound like he's still a spring chicken:
Kaidi MacKay: "Dumbledore is getting older, will it be alot harder
for him to fight Lord Voldermort this time around?"
JK Rowling replies -> "He is getting older, but he didn't do badly
at the end of 'Phoenix', so there's life in him yet!"
So, unless there's a secret hidden in that vague answer, I guess DD
will still be strong in Book 6.
I do think we'll find out DD misinterpreted the Prophecy, or
interpreted it to the best of his knowledge, but he was missing
information. Like the 'circumstances of his {Riddle's} birth' that
JKR referred to in the WBD chat.
Mo:
> 2. I think Lupin will play a bigger role, especially when it
comes
> to guiding Harry. I think he will step in as sort of a psudo-
> guardian/mentor.
Jen: I hope so! After POA, I was expecting that relationship to
continue, but of course Sirius stepped in. In OOTP, Lupin is still
in the shadow of Sirius, but plays a role in protecting Harry as part
of the Advance Guard and restraining him from going through the
Veil.
Lupin has to be the key to *something*. He's the last person with
intimate knowledge about James/Lily/Sirius except for Peter, who
presumably won't be having a nostalgic chat with Harry anytime soon!
And surely we'll find out where Lupin was the year his friends
thought he was the spy?
