I don't know if anyone will get this except me, but I keep thinking
that since a ghost is a spirit, the proper cure would be spirit(s) of
mandrake, that is, the essence of mandrake in a distilled liquid form,
like spirit(s) of ammonia or turpentine. It's a pun that occurs to me
whenever I read the scene, but I'm probably the only person who's
amused by it.

In any case, the petrified Nick is substantial enough to be fanned
upstairs and placed on a bed, so I think essence (spirits) of mandrake
could be sprinkled on him without going through him as it would in his
normal state.
