I've thought of this possibility, too.  It was also interesting to 
consider that a little bit of all the House traits is good to have in 
one's character, because in a real life example, I have so little 
Slytherin (any online sorting or real life acquaintance will testify) 
that a bit more ambition, looking out for myself, etc. would be a 
positive balance to the other traits.  As for slytherinlike traits 
being used to good, imagine say a muggleborn wizard determined to 
succeed at his wizarding studies to make up for being helpless when 
the deatheaters harmed his relatives, or whatever, and put his drive 
to good use for a positive cause...  Just as someone here once 
pointed out that even Barty Crouch Jr. was being extremely loyal but 
to the wrong entity, so that there are more than one ways to 
interpret a House trait... (not to imagine what house he was in, but 
showing a bad way for a Hufflepuff trait to be realized, for 
example... though perhaps being 'just' too would preclude that 
situation...)
