Here's something I just thought of... what if the reason Molly
is so over protective of Harry is because she didn't fight in
the first war? She and Arthur must've been old enough, but we
don't know why they didn't fight. Maybe Molly and Arthur didn't
fight for selfish reasons or because they doubted Dumbledore,
and now Molly feels extra bad, given what happened to Harry.

As well, I'm wondering if she is so protective of her own kids
because she doesn't want them to make the same mistakes she did
(a common parental feeling.) Now I realize their is debate over
when Molly and Arthur went to Hogwarts, but what if Molly was in
seventh year when she became pregnant with Bill? And because of
this pregnancy she was never able to pursue a career? She is
protective of her kids (perhaps too protective) because she wants
them to do better than she did. I feel that Molly, although being
a good mother and housewife, always seemed better suited for some
kind of job beyond the home, and ended up at home by default. Just
a thought.
