Mandy here:
My thoughts are that Sirius was not, ever, a very nice person.

His treatment of Kreature does not surprise me one bit. I will agree
that he has suffered greatly in his short and tragic life, and the
character of Sirius Black has managed to gather a great many
supporters, particularly women, who are attracted to the Bad Boy
struggling to do the right thing, who dresses in black, rides
motorcycles, defies his parents and has an F**k You attitude toward
the whole world! But come on! Sirius Black was an arrogant, spoiled,
selfish, moody, angry, violent, petulant, immature man.

Mandy, who will happily slap anyone who swoons at the above
description. ;-)
