1. Prof. Umbridge uncovers that Snape has been at Hogwarts for 14 
years which means he joined right after LV's demise.  This implies 
that he played a big part in the events, but who's side was he on?

I'm going to focus on this one statement...according to Severus, he has been teaching for 14 years.  Harry is 15.  15 - 14 = 1...therefore he started when Harry was 1.  OK, school starts on Sept. 1, so he started teaching in September after Harry turned 1 in July.  James & Lily did not die until Oct. 31 after Harry turned 1 in July, so therefore Severus was teaching at Hogwarts for almost 2 months *PRIOR* to LV's downfall, not after.  I still think he played a big part in the events, but he was already spying for DD by this time.  And I'd say he did it rather easily by telling LV that he had acquired a position at Hogwarts which would make him more useful to LV.  So, I think that it was Severus that alerted DD to what LV had planned for the Potters....
