Kathy with just a few added thoughts and responces:

Del :
You say it : you have much more chance to succeed with school than
without. There are tons of kids who are very good at something while
in high school (arts, sports, whatever), but because they don't build
on that talent, they don't manage anything much out of it.

Kathy:
Actually what I did say was that school does not automatically equal
success. School however can be the very key to success. The twins have used
school as far as they felt it could take them and is most likely a key in
their success. Im looking at it more like once they took their OWLs they
more or less did graduate. They felt no need to take NEWTs because that is
only required to further your education in an academic career. That is not
the direction they are taking so they feel no need to attend school any
further. It would be the equivalent of taking a calculus course when your
ambition is to become a physical education teacher. Its just not necessary.

Del :
They *say* so, but that's not necessarily true ! I'm sure they could
still benefit from some advanced courses in charms and
transfiguration, for example.

Kathy:
At this point I think they could teach those classes given their advance
knowledge of the courses. Academics just dont seem to interest them.

Del :
There are TONS of kids out there in highschool who feel they have no
use going to school anymore. Most of them are *wrong*. Just because
it's the Twins doesn't mean they are necessarily the exception to the
rule.
As for the way they are dressed at the end of the year, it doesn't
mean anything to me. There are too many people dressing up on credit
for a time and then losing it all. I have yet to see that they are
really doing well.

Kathy:
If we are talking about all children in general I would have to agree that
they are not willing to make a sincere effort. They find their first out and
take it. We could go on and on but in the twins case they have planned out
better than an accountant on what where when and how. I dont see them going
into their endeavor blindly in any way. They take their future quite
seriously and are extremely ambitious in the direction that will yield the
most profit.

Del :
My moyher did force my sister to finish highschool, and a couple of
years later my sister thanked her for it ! While still in high school,
she just didn't realise how the world works, and that not having that
diploma actually closes a mighty lot of doors.

Kathy:
No disrespect to your sisters situation, in such cases I would most likely
agree with you that you should attempt to intercede to have the child stay
in school.
But the twins have extreme talent, financial backing and they have received
all that they can in the area that they need from schooling.

Del:
My husband was in a rock band as a young adult. They practiced real
hard and everything, but none of them got a job out of it. It *is* his
studies, not his immense love and his talent for music, even coupled
with perseverance, that got my husband his job :-)
Being totally engrossed in a passion is a typical caracteristic of
teenagers, but very few of them make a living out of it.

Kathy:
I understand the point you are trying to make but the twins already had the
joke shop set up and were making money at their enterprise before they
decided to call it quits. They didnt burn their bridge until they had
crossed it. If they hadnt got the money to invest in buying the necessary
equipment that did turn their ideas into successful products they most
likely would have stayed in school weighing their options at that point.
They just dont need school any more in their endeavors.

Del:
Except emotionally you mean ? Molly is not the only one hurting Ron's
self-esteem. They are often cruelly teasing him. Even Harry has
learned not to show weakness in front of them for fear of being
laughed at.
Oh, and of course there is that pot of boiling soup and that flying
knive at the beginning of OoP. They could have seriously hurt somone
this time.

Kathy:
Actually as far as the twins treatment of Ron they can be a bit Snape-ish
acting to him. What I mean is a lot of times what appears to be cruel is
just to toughen someone up or to teach them something. As I said when Ron
was not doing so well in the Quidditch game they backed off, they do care.
As far as the soup and all, they meant well and never did hurt anyone all
though they could have.

All this leads back to Mollys expectations. That is a cardinal mommy no,
no. Never expect. Teach, take care for their needs, show them by example
but above all else, listen. It is not your wants and needs but your
childrens. Its their choices and their consequences. Molly only sees one
rode. The one that is accepted by her is one who becomes a prefect or
perfect person. In her eyes all else is failing or not worthy of
acknowledgement. She has made several examples of this even to the point of
emotionally hurting Fred and George. They are her children and yet she
excluded them as being part of the family when she made the statement that
that was everyone in the family now when Ron became a prefect. Molly appears
to have conditional love in this instance, which is another mommy no, no. I
actually applaud the fact that the twins did not take this to heart and
become angry or distant from her because of the way she has excluded them
from their very family.
