I think the wizard age is an interesting issue.  For example, does 
the average reader know that DD is 150 and Minerva, 70?  Or is that 
just info the avid fan has?

Minerva's hair is black when Harry is a baby and she is in her 60's.  
Karkaroff's hair is beginning to gray, so is he older than Minerva?  
The Weasley's must be at least in their 40's, though I would think 
older.

Back to another question in this thread. The cover up and how Fudge 
knew. It could be possible that Lucius knew about the situation with 
Hagrid from the diary and told Fudge about it. Lucius possibly wanted 
to discredit Hagrid as well as the Weasleys.
