I agree, Snape knew their nicknames. They weren't too careful in
hiding them. I thought that he was indicating "manufacturers" to let
Lupin know that he (Snape) knew who made the map.
Snape believed Black was a murderer who was after Potter. So I don't
think he considered that it came from Black. He may have thought it
came from Lupin which would be another reason to let Lupin keep it.
Let's remember too, at this point, Snape doesn't know it's a map.
And, I'm 49% convinced that Snape believes it is made with Dark Arts.
