Carolyn:
*Really ?* That is extraordinary! What does the letter say in the US
edition ? Maybe JKR regretted giving that number away and tried to
change it? Does anyone know if it was removed from later UK
editions ? Mine is a hardback dated 1999, and has the printer marks
20 19 and 18 on the copyright page.

FYI, the relevant bit of the letter in the UK edition says:
'Crookshanks took the order to the Owl Office for me. I used your
name but told them to take the gold from Gringotts vault number seven
hundred and eleven - my own. Please consider it as thirteen
birthdays' worth of presents from your godfather.'
