One thing that D'dore apparently didn't think of when he left Harry with his
Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia was that, instead of being spoiled by being
raised as a hero in the WW, he might have ended up spoiled just because
that's the Dursleys' way of raising a child.
Imagine that scene...Harry getting the word from Hagrid. Harry is just
about Dudley's twin, except that his hair's dark, he wears glasses and has a
scar. IOW, he's built along the lines of Jabba-the-Hutt.
Hagrid: "You're a _wizard,_ Harry!"
Harry: "D'uh...Is it good to eat? Can I turn my uncle and auntie into
newts because they didn't get me as many presents for my birthday as I got
last year?"
*Hagrid shakes his head, envisioning All Sorts Of Trouble in the immediate
future*
Seriously, if Harry were "Dudley, Mark II," that would have probably ruined
him as thoroughly as being raised in the WW could ever have. If I'd been
D'dore, I'd have gotten a nice magical family to raise him _under another
name._ Instead of "Harry Potter, the Boy Hero," he might have been "Harry
Smith," and at least known about the WW. (I thought that if the Patil
twins' parents had taken him in, he could have been known as "Harry
Krishna," but this is a Serious List and I'm not allowed to make stupid
jokes.)
And if you think that, say, Professor Snape is hard on Neville...imagine how
he'd be on a Dudley-clone!
