I don't see that anyone else picked up on this point (I'm woefully behind on
emails, so please hold off on the howlers if I missed it!), but while the
Finnish language seems off from what we know of Karkaroff, but the
definitions surely fit him. The way he left Hogwarts would certainly
quality as flight and I'm sure if he's the one Voldemort referred to "one
too cowardly to return..he will pay" (US GOF p651), Voldemort would consider
him a fugitive.
