Well, that one certainly got me thinking; and as the DVD was still in the player (my kids
having watched the movie over the weekend), I just had to check....
The results are inconclusive. There is indeed a mark on DD's head between his left
eyebrow and his hairline, a slight darkish something that seems to me to be in the shape
of a lowercase 'h.' It could be a scar or even (Richard Harris having been in his 70s when
the scene was shot) a varicose vein. You can even make the mark out on the cover of the
US edition of the DVD, though it's very vague. Here's the thing: it doesn't seem out of the
question that the mark is simply an old scar/birthmark/whatever of the actor's. Could
even be the remains of a bruise from a bump on the head. It's very hard to see, and it is
purplish, where Harry's has a distinctly red-brown hue. So I think I'm going to have to
withhold my judgment until book six or seven confirms or refutes. Anyone else see
something different?
