In the Royal Albert Hall chat, JKR specifically refers to it as "the death."  
Now, when answering questions about the books, JKR may evade, avoid, 
sidestep, joke, respond with a question of her own...but she doesn't lie.  IMHO, if 
she calls it a death, that's exactly what it is.
