I think we need to be careful not to take an All or Nothing view of
arranged marriage. Just because some are arranged doesn't mean they
are all arranged. And, just because some aren't arrange, doesn't mean
that none are arranged. There is room for both.
Although, I am quite sure in this day and age, even in the wizard
world, the incidence of arranged marriage is small and shrinking.
Usually, arranged marriages are about power alliances or money, or
both. As the real world and the parallel wizard world become more
diverse and homogenous, and the power of wealth and the power of
politics are somewhat separated, the need for wedding alliances
diminishes.
Just a late night thought.
