Carolyn:
I've always been really puzzled about this too, as Lockhart didn't
appear to have told anyone in advance about his scheme for
Valentine's Day, so I can't see how Ginny would have known to write
the words? Perhaps everyone queued up to give their pre-written
Valentine verses to the dwarves to sing after they heard about the
scheme at breakfast ?

Doesn't feel right as an explanation, as I don't think Ginny would
have done that on her own account - perhaps Diary!Tom did make her do
it...but why? What does it achieve? He couldn't have known Draco
would pick up the diary as a result of the scuffle with the dwarf, or
indeed that it would be in Harry's bag, or be dropped at all.

In that case, did Lockhart write all the Valentines himself? Did he
want to embarrass Harry in order to try and to cut him down to size a
bit more ? Did Draco or some other Slytherin write it for the same
reasons ?

And what's with the green toad reference ?
