Carolyn:
I think the death-of-Sirius scene is a good example of how she is 
using her own knowledge to play a game with us. She could have 
stopped a whole wad of speculation about who did it with one little 
word - by saying "*Her* second jet of light hit him squarely on the 
chest." But she chose not to, leaving it open for us to speculate 
whether it was Bella or not. The way she has written it allows her 
not to have lied either way.

Personally I think that if JKR was at first taken aback by this 
fantastic level of speculation, she is now rather enjoying the cat 
and mouse game. If it doesn't hurt any aspect of the plot she has so 
carefully worked out, I think it will just encourage her to introduce 
even more misleading and ambiguous clues and misdirections than she 
had at first intended.
