I do not think DD is a "bird animagus"....however I do believe that 
as Harry is a Parseltongue so is DD a "aviarytongue"...

it makes sense  when you think about it..

the only thing that doesn't pan out is Hedgwig pecking Ron and 
Hermione's fingers in OOP....

Hedwig of course has great loyalty to Harry....more than DD after all 
these years...

Hed, did after all leave Ron and Hermione with finger injuries after 
they didn't give Harry long enough responses after he asked...
(Although this may have been DD....DD would not have bought any of 
this students to harm per se...(so far, it has  only been 
Harry...Everyone else seems to "drop out" beforehand).
