    I wondered why JKR picked "Crookshanks" as the name for the cat. So I did
a bit of research and came up with this theory. The cat is named after a cat
illustrator.
    In the book, "Cats in Fact and Folklore" by Virginia C. Holmgren, she
wrote about the illustrators of "Puss in Boots."
    "The best illustrations for the tale . . . may be those of French artist
Gustave Dore done in the1880s . . . elegant leather boots . . . broad belt  .
. . fancy feathers in his hat . . . It has been copied often, frequently
without credit. Some cat loving readers prefer the illustrations of Kate
Greenway, Walter Crane or George Cruikshank."
    Cruikshank   =  Crookshanks
    What do you think?
