Ah. there seems to be a crossed line here.
I've never claimed that anything DD does is 'unwitting'. Just the opposite.
Yes, it's entirely reasonable that DD would take out insurance once he'd
considered the Prophecy and who might be affected by it. It doesn't
automatically follow that he would tell Lily/James/Frank/Alice. In fact
it would be in character if he didn't IMO. To tell them would imply that
he had no confidence in their Secret Keeper security system and that he
expected Voldy to get to them. Not exactly a nice thing to be told.
But, as a sort of adjunct to this thread, something else of interest
caught my attention.
In PoA during the Quidditch match / Dementor episode, Harry hears
the following
"... and then came a new voice, a man's voice, shouting, panicking -
"Lily, take Harry and go! It's him! Go! Run! I'll hold him off..."
The sounds of someone stumbling from a room - a door bursting open
- a cackle of high pitched laughter -"
A couple of lines later we have:
" "You heard James?" said Lupin, in a strange voice."
This set me to wondering. I'd always assumed that James was killed
outside the house. Add the constant irritation that nobody has yet
discovered just how DD found out the sequence of events at GH.
It's often been assumed that Voldy had an accomplice who later
spilled the beans. No-one, so far as I know has considered the
possibility that there was someone else in the house when Voldy
arrived.
Nothing wrong with old and trusted school-friends visiting, is there?
What if the voice Harry hears was not James, James having being
caught by surprise and already dead. Suppose it was Lupin's voice?
This would neatly explain his "in a strange voice", because he *knows*
that it wasn't James.
I have in the past suggested that Sirius suffered from 'survivors
guilt'; maybe Lupin does too. He feels a responsibility for the
deaths of James and Lily. He survived because Voldy went for his
prime targets first; Lupin would be dealt with later. But he didn't
last long enough to get round to him.
Sure, other posters may disagree; it lacks supporting evidence, but
that's never stopped a bit of devious thinking before, has it?
