I snipped sections of both our comments. You're right, and we agree.  
The kids are making antidotes.  Snape could give someone a Babbling 
Potion and test the antidote on that.(OK, or something totally 
unpleasant but not deadly) IMO, given their relationship now, Harry 
would be just as offended if he'd been made to drink something silly 
or non-lethal.  Had someone like Lupin done it, he would have been 
amused. But then, that's the way Snape has set it up.  

Along that line, part of my training included going into a chamber 
with a gas mask on, then taking it off after tear gas had been 
released, then after a period of time, being allowed to go outside.  
This was unpleasant, but we learned we could trust our gas mask.
