Devious.
Not sure if I agree, though.
Crouch!Moody was playing the part of an ex-Auror, one of the select
group that hunts down DEs - and Snape used (!) to be a DE. As an
ex-Auror, and one with pretty firm views on punishment (he's very
hard line in the Pensieve Court-room scene), Snape would not expect
the real Moody to treat him with respect or consideration IMO.
Friction, sniping, put downs would be expected - just as when he put
the frighteners on Karkaroff. Besides, I doubt if turning Malfoy into
a bouncing ferret would strengthen his case for instituting higher
standards of child care.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my post. I'm not saying that fake Moody was
concerned in any way for Harry's safety -- what I'm saying is that
Crouch Jr. was telling Snape to mind his own business, or else.
Some fans of HP have stated that because Snape's reflection is on
Moody's foe-glass it must mean that Snape is on the good side. But,
IMOO, it really "only" means that he is not on fake Moody's
(Voldemort's) side.
