Finwitch: Quite right. The Higher Forces do take all into account. A
True Prophecy is one that will come true, no matter how you try to
deny it. It is also cryptic and what not...
OK, so "The one with the power to vanguish the Dark Lord will be born
to those who have thrice defied him as the seventh month dies..."
Now, Lord Voldemort heard THIS part and only this part. He didn't
know about the "marks him as his equal"-part at all. That is why he
went to the one he thought was MOST of a threat to him. (see - the
prohecy manipulated his choice by not giving him ALL information, but
it still was his choice!) And, Voldemort WAS vanguished that day.
Also, the 'as the seventh month dies' need not necessarily be the
last of July. It could be the last day of the seventh month counting
from the day the prophecy was given (well, if it hadn't been given on
December, which I doubt because Trelawney had a job interview... I
mean, wouldn't that take place during summer?) - or seventh month of
some other Calendar than we follow to day... Or the seventh time the
Moon was last in the sky before 'dying' - a.ka. going dark...
However, both Voldemort (who marked Harry) and Dumbledore (who heard
the prophecy) considered it to mean the last of July. (so we know now
when Neville's birthday is! I wonder if Harry will buy him something
for a gift - like a wand (if they meet in Diagon Alley) and Neville
will give Harry something important in return...?)
Anyway, "He has a power Dark Lord knows not" - we've seen this!
Voldemort had not 'known' of the ancient magic that backfired his OWN
killing curse back at him, nor Harry's power Harry used while holding
Quirrel's body, nor about the Gryffindor-Sword in Sorting Hat or
Healing Powers of Phoenix Tears... And, the brother-wand effect was
the surprise power at the grave yard (I think the 'echoes'...) and,
DA was Harry's surprise in OOP, I think, Neville in particular.
(I like it that Neville's clumsiness broke the prophecy!)
Anyway, now Harry knows the whole prophecy, but Voldemort does not!
And the Thestrals was also a great on their part...
But well...
