This is for the experts.

After Binns explains all about the Chamber, we have this, "I always knew Salazar Slytherin was a twisted old loony,' Ron told Harry and Hermione, as they fought their way....."But I never knew he started all this pure-blood stuff."

What is it about SS that makes Ron say he 'always' knew he was a 'twisted old loony?' This is before they know there's a basilisk in the chamber, they only knew what Binns had said about a monster/horror, and that Binns thinks it is "arrant nonsense" and "it does not exist, there is no chamber and no monster." And we now have the word 'loony' connected to Slytherin from Ron, Luna Lovegood from Ginny initially, and Remus Lupin from Peeves.
