Well, Harry didn't know the history of the Willow, so he couldn't know 
exactly when it was planted here.
For him, it's just a really noticeable tree, and he can't imagine 
Hogwarts without it (would be so much more safe, so un-hogarts-ey, really)
The only one that would be able to point out that it's not that ancient 
would be Hermione, thanks to "Hogwarts:A history".

I also think that Dumbledore would have made all he could to make people 
believe it was really old, so they wouldn't think of it as a tree with a 
purpose, at the time. Much like the rumours he spread about the 
shrieking shack, I believe.
