I agree with # 3, and wonder, now that you have stated the above so 
eloquently, whether or not Dumbledore has had a lot of "great 
adventures"... Didn't he say that death, to the organized mind is 
just the next great adventure.? I have always had the feeling that 
Dumbledore is just one of those entities that never leaves Harry. Not 
getting closer to death, maybe closer to a burning day...but not 
death.
