On the general subject of The Important Question (that is: Why didn't DD
kill Voldemort, or try to?)
I always thought that the answer has to do with Dumbledore's words that
there are things worse than death. I don't think killing Voldemort is what
he has in mind, but rather those very things.
As for the theories that Harry has to be the one to do it and whatnot... I
don't think DD is all that thrilled at the thought of Harry turning into a
murderer, regardless that it's Voldemort he gets to kill. I myself am sure
there's more than a literal meaning to the prophecy and Harry won't have to
commit murder in the end. I guess I just can't see Harry killing as
resolution to the books.
